Help for your Diabetes - great site - you'll learn so much.

LET'S TALK PERSONAL
Help with self management of your diabetes.

Diabetes affects 16 million people every year. It is a very confusing, scary and depriving disease.

Let's break it down and look at it like it sounds - Die-beat-us - Now that's scary -

let's turn it around.... Die-beat-it - Now that's better.

Could you choose the color of your hair? (yes I know - you can do that out of a bottle)

Could you choose the color of your eyes? (yes I know - you can do that also if you want to wear those colored contact lenses)

Could you choose the genes you are stuck with? The answer is no. This means you could not choose to not have diabetes. Therefore, you make do with what you have.

There is one other circumstance that I tried to leave out because it is so sensitive but my expert Sharon, the Diabetes Educator called me on it ...so I guess I better cover it.

I don't want to cover it - but since I'm trying to help you out here, then I'll get to it.

It is a word that no one wants to hear - it hurts, it embarrasses us and is very destructive.....

overweight....Did you get that? You didn't get it - OK here is another word for it....chubby - Did you get that one? No - you didn't get that one either. Ok you made me do it - so here it is - Are you FAT?

There it is now don't you feel bad you made me say it like that.

If your answer to this is yes...here is a fact you don't want to hear either. Overweight causes more diabetic problems than genes.

So if you are overweight you might just be a time bomb waiting to happen. Don't want to scare you - but this was my problem.

I had it in my family and also was overweight - so I got a double whammy.

Don't you get tired of people saying - if they really wanted to lose it, they would. Yeah sure!!

But let me give you a clue - when you don't have a choice - you know
what?

.... your attitude changes. Oh I have a choice, but I don't like the alternatives, so I look at it like I don't have a choice.

Some people will try to soft soap it and say you can live a normal life and eat everything you want but just watch your sugar. WRONG!!!

Face it from the beginning and live by the rules this disease dictates to you. You will be so glad you did. I am doing great, feel good and my blood sugar is coming into line.

It's not so bad when you look at it as no choice - when the candy is passed, I just say no thank you and go on - this coming from someone that would rather have a piece of pie instead of a steak dinner. I am perfectly honest with you - I do not even want it now and I am not even tempted.
(Of course I had someone who had diabetes for 10 years clue me in on some great Nutritional Supplements which allowed her to come off her medicine except when stressed out)

Unfuse that time bomb and try your very best effort to lose the weight - I know it is not easy - I fought this battle for 35 years, but especially if you have diabetes in your family - don't let the double whammy get you. Do what you can and that is all you can do.

Now, nuff said about weight - I promise not to speak of it again.

Wheee - Sharon that was hard to do - I know you have such a caring way of telling it, but it must be hard to just spit it out to different people all the time.

You can choose to live by the rules of the disease and live a fairly nomal life or you can choose to live your life as you please and suffer the consequences. Now which road will you travel.

DOCTOR'S DON'T ALWAYS EXPLAIN EVERYTHING TO YOU

Doctor's are busy, they cram too many people in for appointments in a day, they don't care, they just want you to show them the money....pick any of these and you are still left holding the bag with a disease you don't know what to do with.

In my case - the way I found out was the nurse took my folder out - laid it up on the counter and said 'you have diabetes and it's out of control - take these pills and here is a diet' - that is every word I heard.

I did have diabetes in my family very strong, but it had been over 43 years since I dealt with any of it and I was sure they had some magic that had been developed to cure it or do something about it that was easy, pain free and a simple thing to do. Well as technoloy moves ahead - the cure for diabetes has stood still. It is not much different than what I had heard 43 years earlier.

But I was confused - didn't know what to do or how to handle it. My head filled with a lot of scary thoughts from the complications that go along with diabetes so I turned to the internet.

A DOCTOR'S OFFICE THAT DOES NOT KEEP YOU INFORMED
